Snorkel Tours by Paddles By The Sea
Offered May-August, all other months will be conditional on ocean conditions
Snorkeling the Boiler Wreck
Paddle out on a kayak or SUP and snorkel the SS Breconshire, an iron steamship that sank along the coast of Vero Beach in 1894.
Also known as the Boiler Wreck, this nearshore snorkeling destination is great for beginners and more advanced paddlers. After a quick 300-yard paddle from shore, you’ll find yourself over the SS Breconshire, which is now a safe haven for a multitude of marine animals. Snorkel Tours
In the past, we hosted snorkeling tours to the shipwreck. As of 2023, we’re unable to run snorkeling tours thanks to insurance companies’ red tape. It’s unclear whether we’ll be able to offer them again in the future. In the meantime, you’re welcome to rent our equipment and explore the wreck on your own.
Two Launch Sites to Choose From
Begin your journey to the past from the beach at Kimpton Vero Beach Hotel, Ocean Breeze or Costa d’Esta Resort, both of which are conveniently located near the shipwreck.
Turn your shipwreck expedition into a full-day experience by renting lounge chairs, umbrellas, or a beach cabana to relax in before and after your adventure.
Please note that this activity relies on several variables lining up: calm winds, calm waves, and good visibility. May through August is the best time of year to try snorkeling in Vero Beach, but it’s not guaranteed that conditions will be suitable. Talk to our beach crew at either location to see if the conditions are good for snorkeling during your stay.
